Der große Lehrervorgänger des modernen Karate. Choki Motobu wurde im Jahr 1871 in eine der ältesten und respektiertesten Familien Okinawas geboren. Als treue Diener des Königs übten alle Familienmitglieder verschiedene Kampfkünste aus, die wahrscheinlich aus China stammten. Diese Übungen waren die notwendige Vorbereitung, um den König zu verteidigen, und produktive Art und Weise, um sich die Zeit in der Gesellschaft des Ryu Kyu zu vertreiben. Über die Zeit vor Choki Motobus Berühmtheit sowie der Erscheinung seines Buches im Jahr 1926 und seiner Rückkehr 1938 nach Okinawa gibt es nur sehr wenige Referenzen über ihn. Aber man nimmt an, dass er wegen seiner Beziehungen zu Yasuhiro Konishi (der das Shindo Jinen Ryu im Jahr 1934 gegründet hatte) und Abe aus dem Nihon Kempo, selbst eine aktive Rolle in der Entwicklung des okinawesischen Karate hatte, aber wir können nicht mit Bestimmtheit sagen, was das für Aktivitäten waren. Choki Motobu erlag einem Leiden im Unterleib und starb am 2. September 1944 in der Stad Naha auf Okinawa im Alter von 73 Jahren. Die Lehren von Choki Motobu jedoch bleiben in den Herzen und im Geist von Millionen von Karateschülern erhalten, die das großartige Erbe dieses großen Karate Kempo Meisters bewahren. Ken B.
